Bucs veteran, Lavonte David, makes NFL’s All-Decade team; former Buc also on list

On Thursday, December 26th, 2019, the NFL announced its member of the 2010’s All-Decade team. The All-Decade team incorporates the most dominant players of the last 10 years, including players such as Tom Brady and JJ Watt, both of which being clear future Hall of Famers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were represented rather well with veteran linebacker, Lavonte David, making the team as 1 of the 3 linebackers assigned to the All-Decade team. The other 2 linebackers selected include Carolina Panthers stud, Luke Keuchly, and Seattle Seahawks defensive Captain, Bobby Wagner. Lavonte David has been following the steps of Bucs legend Derrick Brooks ever since entering the league back in 2012. David made an instant impact his rookie year totaling 112 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 5 passes defended, and 1 interception. Ever since his rookie year things have gone up for David totaling 107 tackles, 7.0 sacks, 1 safety, 10 passes defended, and 5 interceptions, this incredible stat line comes just a year after his rookie performance. David has since made just one Pro Bowl and just one First Team All-Pro selection, known for being one of the most underrated players every year. David currently has a total of 719 tackles, 22.5 sacks, 46 Passes Defended, and 11 interceptions in his 7-year career and looks to increase all those numbers just being the age of 29. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback, Darrelle Revis, has also made the NFL’s All-Decade team. Revis had high hopes for his signing in Tampa however the hype turned out to be for nothing. During the 2013 season, Revis had recorded 43 tackles, 1 sack, 11 Passes Defended, and 2 Interceptions. With such an up and down decade coming to an end for the Bucs, the future looks brighter then ever for a team with such a young core. The future is now for Tampa, Go Bucs!

Bucs Jameis Winston looking for 30 Million for upcoming season; Franchise Tag a potential option

After the complete dismantling of the Detroit Lions during Week 15 of the 2019 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had informed Quarterback Jameis Winston that he would be retained for the 2020 season. After two dominant weeks by Winston throwing for +450 yards and 4 touchdowns in Weeks 14 and 15, the Quarterback known for his inconsistency, then threw for under 400 yards along with just 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions in the Week 16 loss to the Houston Texans. With such inconsistency from Winston, both pros and cons are portrayed by his game. Winston currently leads the entire NFL in interceptions (28) the most he has ever had in a single season since entering the league in 2015. Though the interception rate is a revolving issue, Winston known to be a “gunslinger”, leads the league in Passing Yards at 4,908 hoping to reach 5,000 passing yards in the Week 17 match up against the Atlanta Falcons. Winston also leads the league in Pass Completions with 367 and just second in Touchdown Passes with 31 yet another career high, just behind MVP front runner, Lamar Jackson. With all this being said, a recent interview with Winston’s agent allegedly stated that Winston would only return with a $30 Million dollar contract and would leave the following year if a Franchise Tag is placed. In most eyes Winston is not a top-dollar Quarterback just yet and so he should not be paid as one. A contract has been in talks with an estimated range of 24-26 Million dollars per year. If Winston is able to return on a contract like such. the future looks rather bright for Tampa bringing back a veteran to the Buccaneers and a true leader which this team needs. Another year of coaching from HC Bruce Arians would allow Winston to improve on his decision making mistakes and allow him to truly flourish in a Byron Leftwich system. Go Bucs!

On Sunday, December 8th, 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Indianapolis Colts in a high scoring thriller resulting in a final score of 38-35 Buccaneers. Bucs were favored by -3.0 to win this game especially considering the home field advantage and the recent game success from the past 2 weeks beating Atlanta and Jacksonville. The opening quarter started rather rough for Tampa after giving up an interception to star linebacker Darius Leonard within the first minute of regulation then a 46-yard receiving touchdown to Marcus Johnson with a made extra point followed by a 50-yard field goal from Colts Kicker, Chase McLaughlin. The following drive Running Back Dare Ogunbowale fumbles the ball in Buccaneer territory to be recovered by Indianapolis. Shortly after, the Bucs are able to make a huge stop defensively giving the ball back to Tampa’s very dangerous offense. After this complete change of events, QB Jameis Winston is able to find a wide open Mike Evans as he takes it in for a 61-yard touchdown not before having an injury to his hamstring which would result in him being ruled OUT for the remainder of the game. Extra point is good by Matt Gay. Second quarter officially underway the Buccaneers maintain the lead at 14-10. Colts are able to drive the ball eventually leading to a 2-yard touchdown run by former USF running back Marlon Mack who is rather familiar to scoring touchdowns in Raymond James. Extra point is good by McLaughlin bringing the score to 17-14 Colts. Bucs get the ball back and are able to drive the ball down the field when a bad pass from Jameis Winston results in not only another interception for Darius Leonard but also an 80-yard return for the score along with a made extra point giving the Colts a hefty lead of 24-14. Tampa, however, is able to return the favor by driving the field and finding an open Cameron Brate in the Endzone. Extra point is made making the score 24-21. Indianapolis Kicker, Chase McLaughlin able to make a last minute 19-yard field goal resulting in a score of 27-21 at the half. As the third quarter begins, the Colts look to extend an already significant lead as Jacoby Brissett completes a 12-yard touchdown pass to Zach Pascal. Indianapolis attempts the 2-point conversion and gets it with a 2-yard pass from Jacoby Brissett to Zach Pascal yet again. Score 35-21 Colts. Bucs find hope as Winston and his offense are able to drive the ball down the field eventually to find Justin Watson for his first career touchdown. Watson being in for the currently injured Mike Evans. Matt Gay extra point is successful. Fourth quarter comes by and Bucs are still down by 7 point in a 35-28 game. Tampa drives the field only to find Matt Gay saving the day yet again with a 44-yard missile field goal bringing the score within reach. Buccaneers defense makes a crucial stop giving the ball back to Jameis Winston and Tampa’s offense as they are able to find open men downfield as they inch toward Indianapolis territory. Tampa finds themselves in the redzone on a 1st and 10 after converting a 4th down attempt. Jameis drops back, looks for an open man, throws it, TOUCHDOWN to Breshad Perriman with just under 4 minutes in the game. Extra point is made and Tampa finds themselves their 3rd consecutive win. Tampa’s record improves to 6-7, however, are officially eliminated from playoff contention after the Minnesota Vikings won their game leaving no mathematical way the Bucs can make the playoffs. Bucs hot rookie earns himself NFC Rookie of the Month!

With the 5th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected speedy linebacker Devin White out of LSU. After a rather slow start to White’s career, the hard-hitting backer has proved himself to be no joke in the last couple games for Tampa. White truly flourishing as a big part of Tampa’s incredibly young defense in a Todd Bowles oriented system, White has shown glimpses of true NFL stardom. Just in the month of November, White put up 46 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 TFL’s, 5 QB Hits, 2 Passes Defended, and just last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars an Interception and a Fumble Recovery Scoop and Score.
