Bucs Jameis Winston looking for 30 Million for upcoming season; Franchise Tag a potential option

After the complete dismantling of the Detroit Lions during Week 15 of the 2019 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had informed Quarterback Jameis Winston that he would be retained for the 2020 season. After two dominant weeks by Winston throwing for +450 yards and 4 touchdowns in Weeks 14 and 15, the Quarterback known for his inconsistency, then threw for under 400 yards along with just 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions in the Week 16 loss to the Houston Texans. With such inconsistency from Winston, both pros and cons are portrayed by his game. Winston currently leads the entire NFL in interceptions (28) the most he has ever had in a single season since entering the league in 2015. Though the interception rate is a revolving issue, Winston known to be a “gunslinger”, leads the league in Passing Yards at 4,908 hoping to reach 5,000 passing yards in the Week 17 match up against the Atlanta Falcons. Winston also leads the league in Pass Completions with 367 and just second in Touchdown Passes with 31 yet another career high, just behind MVP front runner, Lamar Jackson. With all this being said, a recent interview with Winston’s agent allegedly stated that Winston would only return with a $30 Million dollar contract and would leave the following year if a Franchise Tag is placed. In most eyes Winston is not a top-dollar Quarterback just yet and so he should not be paid as one. A contract has been in talks with an estimated range of 24-26 Million dollars per year. If Winston is able to return on a contract like such. the future looks rather bright for Tampa bringing back a veteran to the Buccaneers and a true leader which this team needs. Another year of coaching from HC Bruce Arians would allow Winston to improve on his decision making mistakes and allow him to truly flourish in a Byron Leftwich system. Go Bucs!
